The lighting of an operating room is one of the essential aspects to consider to achieve success in any of the surgical procedures carried out in these places. This illumination is achieved through the operation lamps which are special lamps designed to illuminate the surgical area, thus providing a bright and uniform illumination centered on the operating table during the surgical act.
Operation lamps provide the correct lighting during a surgical procedure. The light in these lamps is white, because in the operating room the doctor needs to observe clearly the color of any organ or tissue, as this is an indicator of the patient’s condition and health. They also have the ability to emit hours of bright light without overheating the patient or health personnel involved in the intervention.
Types and models of operation lamps according to the type of light they emit
Halogen lamps
They are made of halogen gas and quartz glass. These types of lamps resemble home bulbs that emit light from a filament, shining in a glass chamber filled with gas. The filament is usually made of tungsten and the type and proportion of gas in the bulb varies. They are incandescent and provide quite intense and bright white light. For a long time, they were the best operating room lighting on the market.
Among the benefits they offer is that, the more electric current, they offer greater illumination and, therefore, a sharper image is obtained for the vision of the operating table where the surgeon and all medical equipment work. Another benefit of this type of lamp is that it reduces the consumption of electric energy. Among its disadvantages, it is found that they increase the temperature in the area where they are used and they may also suffer inopportune blackouts, which poses a risk for patients and a disadvantage for surgeons who can pass heat, sweat or, worse, lose, even for a short time, the correct lighting of the area.
LED lamps
LED lamps are the most used today because they eliminate the problem of infrared radiation caused by excessive heat, this thanks to providing intense white light without shadows, thus providing optimal lighting in the operating room for the work developed by surgeons and their team. These lamps have a light-emitting diode, which distributes the electric current flow in a single direction, so that electricity is used much more efficiently and very little of it is needed to achieve powerful lighting in the operating room.
Like halogen lamps, light is more intense at more amount of electric current. But these LED lamps, they don’t heat up and they don’t generate that much heat. And they have a much longer service life than halogen lamps. Another advantage of this type of operation lamps is that they can be touched with the hand without any risk of burn, and that they have a much longer service life.
Gas-discharge lamps
This type of operating lamp works by irradiation as a result of the excitation of a gas that has been subjected to electric shocks.
They emit a very white light, which needs a few minutes both to reach its maximum performance and to cool down and be able to come back on. Among its advantages is that they do not heat as much as halogens.
How to choose the best operating lamp for operating theaters?
When choosing an illumination for the operating room, you should be aware that it is imperative that you maintain a balance between luminance, volume, shadow management and temperature.
So you should consider four main factors for choosing operating room light: lighting, light volume, heat management and shadows.
What do we offer you in Kalstein?
Kalstein is a company MANUFACTURER of medical equipment of the highest quality and the best technology at the best prices in the market, so you can make your purchase confidently with us, knowing that you have the service and advice of a firm and committed to innovation. This time we present our YR02106 Operating Lamp. This lamp has revolutionary LED lighting technology: brilliant four-color blending concept. Light sources with four colors (green, amber, red and warm/cold white) are mixed exactly where it is created (in the single light beam capacitor), but not in the surgical field, which generates super high CRI (Ra & gt; = 95 Meanwhile, the new light source requires fewer LEDs to achieve ideal illuminance with less radiated heat.
