What Is A Single-Channel Electrocardiograph?

They are medical equipment that records and prints the electrical impulses of the heart automatically and in a selected sequence. The operator selects the automatic or manual change, the chart speed, the signal sensitivity and the response range. So, from the manual mode the operator selects the cables that will be recorded and the equipment tracks the signal to perform the study. On the other hand, it automatically selects the analysis window related to the recording time for each derivation, and the unit automatically records what is scheduled. Also, for 2.5 seconds, the machine tracks 12 leads in a standard way recorded in one strip per rhythm.

Likewise, these equipment have preview screens that transmit the selected signals in real time, allowing the operator to verify the quality of the stored signal to be printed and then interpreted by the health professional.

Similarly, high-pass filters are a mechanism used by the operator to eliminate noise frequencies that mask late potentials when comparing the heartbeat on the screen, made during the initial recording that represents a normal beat more closely, which are accepted if they match the records shown on the screen. Approximately 200 to 300 keystrokes are digitized and averaged; electrical activity that does not correspond to the averaged signal, such as noise from equipment or other sources, is canceled. However, the biggest advantage offered by this type of electrocardiograph is that it is extremely light and its use is quite simple.

Parts of a Single-Channel Electrocardiograph

These units are formed by biopotential expanders formed by protection circuits, isolation circuit, preamplifier, calibration signal and manipulator amplifier. These record by means of a selected sequence or automatically, the result of several beats, not just one.

∙         A right leg circuit: which isolates the circuit using the right leg as a ground, thus reducing the voltage received and increasing patient safety.

∙         The shunt selector regulates the contribution of each electrosus and controls the amplification of biopotentials.

∙         Data logging: it has a memory system that stores the information before being printed.

∙         A microcontroller: which controls each procedure and mode of operation capable of being performed by the electrocardiograph.

∙         The oscillograph: which records and prints the signal captured by the electrodes using pens with continuous thermal paper millimitrated inkjet.

By controlling and managing the input constant current voltage levels of the equipment, there can be for no reason a dangerous potential that causes leakage currents of the electrodes, as well as avoid damage to the equipment by discharges of voltages caused by a defibrillator for example, and in the protection of the patient. It also goes to the shunt selector, which must make the necessary connections between the electrodes creating the correct configuration of potentials to produce the desired shunt.

In addition, a second 20 Hz filter is applied, which removes the signals below 5 Hz, emitted by the lungs, then sends all the important information to the electrocardiograph. Finally, a filter that is between 55 and 65 Hz is applied, which generates the power supply of the equipment and eliminates external frequencies.
