Ultrasonic cleaner How does it work?

An ultrasonic cleaner is a specialized equipment that allows to effectively clean delicate items or difficult to access areas. This equipment usually consists of a container, in which the object or objects to be treated are placed, immersed in a special liquid through which high frequency waves are propagated, generating an effect called acoustic cavitation through which an optimal cleaning is achieved.

An ultrasonic cleaner uses ultrasound waves ranging from 20 to 400 kHz, thus generating vibrations that loosen accumulated debris and dirt on the objects being cleaned.

These devices are widely used in the medical, pharmaceutical, sports, automotive, aesthetic and engineering industries, since they guarantee a deep and gentle cleaning of the objects, with the total certainty of eliminating the smallest residue in an efficient and ecological way, in a short time, obtaining an unequalled cleaning compared to other cleaning methods.

How is an ultrasonic cleaner composed?

  • A bucket in which the object or part to be cleaned is immersed or deposited.
  • A generator and an ultrasonic emitter.
  • Water, and an ultrasonic cleaning fluid or ultrasonic detergent.

How is an ultrasonic cleaner used?

When using an ultrasonic cleaner, the manufacturer’s specifications, the amount of product and the temperature of the liquid to be used must be taken into account.

The base of the solution to be used is usually water, but you will always need to include a specific ultrasonic cleaner for the part to be washed. This is essential to take into account, because, like all detergents, different specific types will be used depending on the dirt to be cleaned, and the type of material the parts to be treated are made of.

How does an ultrasonic cleaner work?

An ultrasonic cleaner works through the process of acoustic cavitation, which is formed when the bucket of the equipment is turned on, causing and rapidly expanding ultrasonic waves or bubbles through the liquid. These bubbles grow, move very fast and explode releasing energy that separates the dirt from the surface of the material. Ultrasonic cleaning fluids contain compounds designed to make ultrasonic cleaning more effective. They usually contain detergents, wetting agents and other components, which enhance the cleaning process. Among these liquids are:

  • Decarbonizing liquid for engines and their components.
  • Pickling liquid for ultrasound.
  • Cleaning liquid for ink removal.
  • Ultrasonic degreaser.
  • Ultrasonic sanitizer. These are used for cleaning molds in the food industry, or to remove surgical material residues.

Other liquids can also be used at the same time, such as additives, which perform different functions: defoamers, antioxidants, among others.
