A multiparameter equipment is a device that allows measuring various variables in water, from a single sample, among these variables we can mention: pH, ORP, ion concentration, conductivity, total dissolved solids (TDS), salinity, resistivity and dissolved oxygen. . Variables that measure a multiparameter device
- Redox potential (ORP): Measures the oxidation or reduction potential of water. This is represented by the unit of measure mV. Positive mV values mean that electrons in the water promote oxidation, a process by which viruses, bacteria, molds, and microbes in the water are destroyed. For example, with a Redox potential of +900 mV, with a neutral PH, all the microorganisms present in the water are eliminated.
- Total Solids (TDS): It is the sum of all dissolved and suspended solids in the water, and provides an indication of the chemical quality of the water. It is defined analytically as total filterable residue (mg / l). The term suspended solids emphasizes the organic and inorganic particulate matter existing in the water. The presence of suspended solids participates in the development of turbidity and the color of the water, while the dissolved solids determine the salinity of the medium, and consequently its conductivity.
- Turbidity: Measures the amount of suspended particles in the water. Its unit of measurement is NTU (Nephelometric Turbidity Unit) or TU (Jackson).
- Conductivity: It measures the electrical current conduction capacity of the water, and allows to know the concentration of ionic species present in the water. This is measured in microsiemens (µS) or Siemens per meter (S / m).
- pH: Indicates the concentration of H + present in the water. This indicator is expressed on a scale from 0 to 14, where 7 is equivalent to a water with a neutral PH. From 0 to 7 indicates that the water is acidic and from 7 to 14 that the water is alkaline.
- Dissolved oxygen: Very relevant gas in water dynamics, its solubility is a function of several factors such as: temperature, pressure, solubility coefficient, vapor pressure of the gas, salinity and physico-chemical composition of water, following the laws of Henry and Dalton . Furthermore, the O2 saturation percentage of a water depends on the turbulence, on the contact surface between gas and water and finally, on its salinity, especially on its CI- content.
- Resistivity: is the specific electrical resistance of a certain water.
